In a world grappling with climate change and the urgent need for sustainable solutions, Matt LeDucq stands out as a visionary leader in the renewable energy sector. With over two decades of experience, he has dedicated his career to building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner, greener future.
"I appreciate the opportunity to talk about these critical issues,” Matt shared during a recent appearance on the Climate+ podcast. His passion for renewable energy is evident as he discusses his work with Forum Mobility, a company dedicated to developing charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Matt recalls the moment he discovered the potential for electric vehicles in heavy-duty sectors: "We knew that we wanted to build charging infrastructure, and heavy duty was a good place to do it… then somebody said, well, what about drayage?" Drayage is the transportation of goods over short distances, typically by truck, to help move cargo between different modes of transportation. It is a vital link in the movement of goods in the global supply chain. For Matt, this moment sparked the founding of Forum Mobility, where he is CEO. Forum Mobility aims to bridge the gap in charging solutions for commercial trucking.
However, the path to innovation is not without its challenges. Matt recognizes the resistance to change within the trucking industry and emphasizes the need to consider the perspective of truckers. "Being a trucker is a hard job. It's a hard business to make money. The wheels aren't moving, you're not making money," he explains. So the industry is understandably cautious about adopting new technologies, especially at the core of their business like electric trucks. This awareness is crucial as our economy and society transition to more sustainable practices.
Matt also highlights the economic pressures that truck owners face. "Unfortunately, if you go out and buy a heavy-duty electric truck, it's about two to two and a half times the price of a diesel truck today." Yet, he remains optimistic, noting that as the market evolves, prices for electric vehicles are expected to become more competitive.
In an era where sustainability is paramount, Matt embodies the spirit of innovation, resilience, and dedication. His work not only aims to transform the trucking industry but also strives to create a sustainable future for all. As he puts it, "We need to make it climate friendly, environment friendly, and most of all, human friendly.”
With leaders like Matt at the forefront of climate innovation, there is hope for a more sustainable future where renewable energy and electric vehicles play a pivotal role in reducing our carbon footprint.
